This hotel is in a totally traditional Chinese style, entering through two courtyards, which are very cool after the heat of a Beijing summer. The view through my window was of a hutong, you can't get a view much more 'old China' than this! I loved it! The position of the hotel is excellent-about 7 minutes walk to Tiananmen Square,& then on to the Forbidden City at the other end of this enormous square. Two minutes walk from the hotel is the Emperors' Avenue,a pedestrian mall (paved with marble in the centre) with restaurants, tea shops and plenty of tourist shopping, and leading on towards various historical monuments.I found it to be very central, and everything I had hoped for. The cleaning staff had not finished cleaning my room when I arrived, but made sure I had a chair to relax in while they finished, and then carried my luggage to the room. Appointments are adequate, and western, everything worked well.A bonus was the kettle etc in the room!

The location was great. Good starting point to explore the Hutongs and the Forbidden City.
The bathroom and the room in general, seemed as if they had not been cleaned for ages. The lampshade had about 1 cm of dust on it and in the bathroom sink were still the toothpaste stains of the predecessor. In the corners of the bathroom the mould grew rampant - no wonder if you shower in the middle of the room without a door or curtain.

Marvellous and absolutely perfect setting and bars and restaurants near the hotel. Great stay in vibrant area. The restaurant was nice, with traditional hutong food:)))

the hotel in a hutong couldn't be more adequate for a tradicional staying in beijing!... the staff (manager/owner was around all the time) at the hotel was very nice, there was wifi in the central "yard", and the location was excellent (for walking by old beijing streets)!...
access to the hotel was horrible, as i read before... most taxis don't have any idea how to get there, and we had to pay 30 yuan (which is a fortune) for a traditional tricycle to find the place.

It is an unusual and exceptionally comfortable property located in Xicheng district close to major attractions and metro railway, shops and cheap local restaurants offering Beijing roast duck, good noodle soups, and Chinese pastries, and restaurants and stores. All the rooms are good-sized with bathroom and the staff is exceptionally nice. The accommodation is in the middle of the town.
Tourists from United States of America often stay at these properties. Consider them for your next trip.
